Redding Memorial Park

McDonald's Chapel was founded in the 1890s, and both the chapel and Redding Memorial Park have been an important part of the Redding California community for more than 100 years. Redding Mortuary and Funeral Home opened on June 17, 1928. In recognition of director Theodore McDonald and assistant director L. Stanford Scott, the name of the funeral home was changed to McDonald & Scott. It was located on the corner of Shasta and Pine streets, where it remained for 38 years. In 1938, McDonald & Scott became McDonald's Chapel. In 1948, Rudy V. Balma joined the staff and was named manager in 1955 when Mr. McDonald retired. At that time, Mr. Balma purchased the funeral home. In 1959, a new wing was added to house a new chapel and to provide more complete service to those in need. In 1965, construction began on a new location of McDonald's Chapel. Mr. Balma retired in 1986, and our current team is proud to continue his tradition of service.
